Last year was a busy year and I didn’t get round to uploading photos of most of the cakes I baked. October and November were especially busy – with Emily’s 1st Birthday too. We had a small family party on the weekend of her Birthday and I made a baby friendly cake to eat – chocolate and beetroot. I wanted to do something woodland or owl themed and something where all the decorations could be made in advance, so this design was perfect. I had seen an idea on Pinterest and added some extras and changed a few things to make it fit the theme of the party. Click  here to see more details of this cake and the yummy recipe.

img_4934aI’ve had a short break from making cakes since Christmas – partly because I haven’t had any to make (not that that usually stops me!) and partly because I’ve been busy at work so haven’t had much time. Luckily though, to end the cake drought, I got a message from Una asking if I could make her Harry Potter themed cake. Tap here and say “I solemnly swear I am up to no good”…

I never got round to writing about my Christmas cake last year and as I tried a new recipe I thought it was worth adding to our Christmas blogs this year. The recipe was from the Sainsbury’s magazine and was a really lovely moist squishy Christmas cake. Click

A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

Over the last few months, lots of my friends have had babies. Having just had a baby myself 4 months ago, I know how crazy the first few days and weeks can be. I love making presents for people and a box of cupcakes seemed perfect for any new parents – especially useful to have something to offer any visitors or for those days when things are so chaotic that all you manage to eat is a cupcake for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Click here to see how these cakes are made.

Hardware Cookies

IMG_3427In 1957 our Grandpa, Alf Denning, opened a hardware shop on the Bristol Road in Northfield, Birmingham. It was called Denning’s Hardware and sold everything from a single nail, to wheelbarrows. As kids we often used to visit the shop when we went up to Birmingham to see our grandparents. I remember running round the shop with the sticker gun and using it to “price” ourselves! Click here to see what tools are for sale!
