This year I had a request from Emily for a reindeer Christmas cake. So I had a look on Pinterest for a few ideas and came across a cute cake that I thought looked great so I adapted it slightly. Click

I managed to make all the reindeer decorations in stages. I planned to make them while Emily was a nursery on Thursday 29th November having coloured all the icing on Wednesday. But instead Chloe surprised us by arriving a week early, so decorating the cake had to wait a couple of weeks!
I made the reindeer out of florist sugar paste and used really thick florist wire for the arms and legs which was originally green but I painted it with brown food colouring. I kept the wire for the legs much longer than they needed to be so that they could be inserted into the cake to keep them standing upright.

I iced the cake and board in a pale green and then put some royal icing on top to represent snow. I also made lots of little hearts from more florist sugar past which I stuck on with edible glue after I had wrapped some white cotton around the cake. And made a couple of other heart decorations for the reindeer.
Last year I broke from tradition and made a chocolate orange fruit cake, but this year I used my favourite fruit cake recipe from Delia Smith which can be found here. It really is the best fruit cake ever!
