I’ve been looking through more of the cakes I’ve done over the last few years again this week and found this campervan cake that I made for one of Rich’s work colleagues. I love being able to personalise cakes, so it always makes it a nice challenge when someone gives you some photos of something they would like re-created on their cake. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJust over a week ago it was Chloe’s first Birthday! I decided to do a frog themed cake and mini party for her, Emily was so excited! I spent a long time on Pinterest looking at frog cakes for some inspiration and then on Facebook I spotted a YouTube video from The Little Cherry Cake Company on how to make a frog cake, so I had a look and thought I would give it a go, it is definitely the cutest froggy cake I had seen. I was very excited about making the technical challenge for dessert week as my parents were coming to stay this weekend, so it gave us the perfect excuse to make something special! And with 6 portions it meant that Rich and I could try it on Friday night and there would still be 4 for Saturday night, as well as saving a tiny bit for a mini one for Emily. Click here to see how we got on.

IMG_5134A couple of weeks ago it was my niece Alice’s Christening and I was very excited to be making the cake for her. I’m not managing to fit much baking or cake decorating in at the moment so it was really nice to have a small cake project to work on! Tams asked for something with butterflies, so we looked at loads of designs and decided on the additions of some painted grass and flowers in pinks and purples and a small grey bunny too. It definitely feels like spring has arrived this week with some gorgeous sunshine and lovely warm weather! So I thought I should upload some photos of these pretty cupcakes. I made them a couple of years ago and have made several similar versions since as the flowers are very easy to make and look really good on top of the cupcakes. Click here to see the recipe and how to make the flower.

PB062198.JPGCan’t believe the bake off is over again for another year! It’s been another great series and I’ve really enjoyed watching it. I am quite relieved there are no more technical challenges though! I haven’t enjoyed them as much as previous years as some of them have been a bit obscure and required special equipment which has made trying the recipes at home a bit more challenging. I was tempted to get Rich to have a go at this one on the BBQ, but decided against it! I used the grill and a griddle pan instead. Click here to see how I got on with the final challenge.

I think I must be one of the only people who actually liked blancmange when I was little! So this recipe definitely appealed and sounded very yummy. I had a bit of help from Emily with the biscuits, but it was a tricky one for a toddler to do! Click here to see how we got on.
