Rich absolutely loves ice cream, so for his Birthday last year I decided to have a go at a melted ice cream drip cake. Not my usual style of cake, but I bought a special scraper to make striped in buttercream and had never used it, so thought this was a good opportunity to give it a go. Click here to see how I got on.

I made some vanilla buttercream and some chocolate buttercream. I started by covering the bake with vanilla buttercream then used the scraper to scrape off the stripes. I then piped the chocolate buttercream into the stripes, before using a flat metal scraper to smooth it out. It didn’t look as good as I had hoped and definitely something that I need to practice, but for a first attempt it was ok. I also bought special bottles of ready made chocolate drip as I had read that this was the best way to achieve a perfect drip affect. Again, it wasn’t great and something that I need to practice. But the over all affect of the cake put a smile on Rich’s face and the girls thought it was a fun idea too.
