Emily was super excited about making rainbow bagels this week, she loves rainbows and her favourite breakfast is bagels! We eat and bake quite a lot of bagels in our house, so this challenge was perfect for us. Click here to see how we got on.

We planned our bagel making around Sunday lunch time, so they would be fresh out of the oven in time for lunch. Paul’s recipe can be found here. The recipe was straight forward and the girls enjoyed kneading the dough, Chloe kept trying to eat it again, can’t imagine it tasted too good! I managed to knead in the food colouring in while Emily and Chloe kneaded some of the other bits of dough, so luckily avoided getting their hands coloured too.

Once it had proved I rolled it out while the girls watched and then Emily did a little bit of helping to roll and twist them. They both stood and watched eagerly while I boiled them before they went in the oven.

The end result was super and we really enjoyed them with some cream cheese on for our lunch, delicious, warm and chewy, they definitely put a smile on our faces!

I love making and baking things to give to people as gifts and biscuits are perfect as they have a longer shelf life than cakes and they tend to travel better too. I bought this elephant cookie cutter a few years ago and it really does make the cutest shaped little elephants, whether it’s for a cake or some biscuits. IMG_5134A couple of weeks ago it was my niece Alice’s Christening and I was very excited to be making the cake for her. I’m not managing to fit much baking or cake decorating in at the moment so it was really nice to have a small cake project to work on! Tams asked for something with butterflies, so we looked at loads of designs and decided on the additions of some painted grass and flowers in pinks and purples and a small grey bunny too. Over Easter weekend it was our Grandma’s 90th Birthday and to celebrate we had a wonderful family weekend together. It all started with a surprise Birthday lunch for Grandma followed by tea and cake of course! Making cakes for the family is always special, particularly this time as Emma and I were always fascinated by the sugar flowers that Grandma used to make, so it was really lovely to be able to make some for her. Click here to see some more photos of this pretty cake.

I always seem to get asked on my Birthday “Are you baking your own cake?” and the answer is always “YES!” I love baking and it’s the one cake a year where I get to do exactly what I want! So this year I made the banoffee cake which was in March’s Olive magazine and chose a design that was simple but elegant. Click here for the scrummy recipe.

It definitely feels like spring has arrived this week with some gorgeous sunshine and lovely warm weather! So I thought I should upload some photos of these pretty cupcakes. I made them a couple of years ago and have made several similar versions since as the flowers are very easy to make and look really good on top of the cupcakes. Click here to see the recipe and how to make the flower.

I am finally getting round to catching up on blogging about all the baking I have done over the last few years, I’ve made so many things that I haven’t got round to sharing, so I thought I would try over the next few months to attempt to publish some of them on here. I made the pink flamingo cupcakes for Emily to take to nursery for her 3rd Birthday last year. She loves flamingos, so these were perfect and the nursery staff loved them too! Click here to see how I made them.

I didn’t get round to uploading any photos of last years ginger bread house but anyone that’s been to our house in the last year will have seen it! It’s been on the sideboard as a permanent feature all year! There’s no chance we’ll eat it now, but it makes a great Christmas decoration and having had baby Chloe just three weeks ago there certainly won’t be time to make one this year! Click here to see more photos of my magical house.

A couple of years ago we hosted Christmas with my sister-in-law, hubby and our nephew, I wanted to make a chocolate log but really wanted to make something slightly different. One of my favourite flavours is chocolate orange which feels like quite a Christmassy flavour, so I adapted a chocolate log recipe and this was the result! Click here to find out more.
