Finally got round to doing the last bake off technical challenges at the weekend, everyone was a bit unsure about this one, but it was delicious, the homemade candied orange was amazing. It was a cross between puff pastry and a sticky fruited bun. Click here to see how I got on.

I can’t believe this series of Bake Off is almost over, we’ve really enjoyed it once again and loved trying the technical challenges each week. There has only been one savoury bake this year, and with both girls Birthdays and Rich’s Birthday too, we have eaten a lot of cake over the last couple of months! Click here to see how I got on with this challenge.

I just about managed to squeeze in making this weeks technical with the girls this weekend. It was definitely a more challenging bake this week with several tricky elements. But worth it as it definitely put a smile on our faces! Click here to see how we got on.

I had just enough time on Sunday evening to attempt this weeks technical challenge and make these for pudding. A traditional steamed sponge and custard was definitely the perfect comfort food for this time of year. Click here to see how I got on.

I’m still playing catch up on making the technical challenges but found some time yesterday to give this one a go. Thyme is my absolute favourite herb, but I don’t think I have ever used it in a sweet recipe before, so I was keen to try this out. Click here to keep reading.

Having been away for half term I am a bit behind with the bake off challenges! I didn’t have time to make this one before we left, so it was on my list of things to cook when we got home, perfect for this miserable autumnal weather. Click here to see how I got on.

Having done every challenge last week and then this week we had Emily’s Birthday on Friday, lunch out on Saturday and a huge chocolate cake to eat, I decided that just doing half the recipe was enough! So one each for Rich and me and then one for the girls to share. I still have some blackcurrants in the freezer from Em’s garden which was lucky. Click here to keep reading.

I don’t often share photos of the bread I bake, but most weeks I bake bread at least twice, sometimes 5 or 6 times, I absolutely love it! I tend to make milk bread loaves or rolls for breakfast/toast for the girls and sourdough for Rich and me. Then at the weekend we quite often have some kind of enriched dough for breakfast as a treat, any variety of cinnamon buns, babka’s, cruffins, croissants, brioche etc. And now it’s getting colder we’ll be having more soup for lunch which means I can try more savoury bread recipes too. I find it really enjoyable and rewarding. I couldn’t resist making these straight away and having them for breakfast this morning!

I was very tempted this week to have a go at an illusion biscuit bake, but realised it would take far too long, so settled for doing the technical again and you can’t beat a good custard cream! I baked with the girls again on Saturday but due to how long these took to chill and cut out I had to finish them off after bed time, but it meant we had a big box to take with us to the rugby festival on Sunday and share with the team. We were all very excited for the start of the new series of the Great British Bake Off last week. And even more excited when we found out the technical challenge was the iconic chocolate cake with the missing raspberry! We had no plans for Sunday afternoon so it was the perfect opportunity to give this a go with the girls. Click here to see how we got on.
