Every year the company I work for takes part in the Enduro Challenge. This is an endurance relay event where a team of 6 athletes race from Tower to Tower – The Tower of London to The Eiffel Tower. Teams run from London to Dover, swim across the English Channel (in only a swimming costume!) and then cycle from Calais to Paris. Yes, this is an extreme triathlon! I’ve taken part a couple of times and have helped support the race the last few years too. It’s an enormous amount of fun and incredibly hard work and the athletes that take part are thoroughly deserving of plenty of homemade cakes! So it has become a tradition that I supply some home baked goodies, preferably themed for the event. So this year I have been busy baking some sea creature cupcakes.

Kids birthday cakes are one of my favourite cakes to make, especially when I get to come up with the design myself. As much as I love making pretty wedding cakes or cupcakes, there is something so fun about making bright, bold decorations for kids/novelty cakes – they are simple to make but always look so effective. So I was really pleased when Nadeem asked if I was able to make a transport themed birthday cake for his son Zahi’s second birthday. Want to find out where the train is heading?

I love making cakes and biscuits to give to people as a present, so when I saw this idea on Pinterest I couldn’t resist! I thought it was perfect to use as a gift to say thank you when we stayed with some friends and their two girls for the weekend. The advantage of doing a blog with somebody else is that you can remind/encourage each other to keep it up. Over the last 6 months my blogging has been very irregular (and infrequent at times) but Becky and I have said that we’re going to remind each other to write a post each week. So here’s my post for the week – look out for Becky’s later this week.

Before I started Gloverly Cupcakes, Becky and I discussed starting a blog with “Sugarplum” in the name. Why? Because it was my nickname when I was younger and it fitted in with the baking theme. I didn’t want to steal the name for a blog on my own, so I came up with Gloverly Cupcakes. Now Becky has joined me we want to keep the Gloverly Cupcakes name, but we also want to have a link to sugarplums. The first step was creating a new logo. The next step was to create a signature bake –
Time for a change…

Before I set up this blog, my sister Becky and I had talked about setting up a blog together. However, due to the fact that we were both too busy and didn’t see each other that often, nothing happened. So just under 2 years ago I decided to go it alone.
A few months ago she said she wanted to join in the blogging fun, and thought it would be a good idea to join mine. Technically she’s no longer a Glover, but she’ll always be my sister and she makes “loverly” cakes too so I’ve agreed to let her join my blogging journey.
