Kid’s Birthday cakes are always fun to make, this one however was a little tricky! I had never made a horse before and didn’t really know where to start. I did a lot of research and did a bit of practise and was finally happy with giving it a go, click here to see how I got on.
On Sunday we finally got around to having Chloe’s Baptism, 2.5 years later than planned due to covid etc. But it was worth the wait, we had a wonderful weekend with family and Godparents. I wanted to make a really special cake and loved the cake I made for my niece Alice, so I decided to make something similar. Click here to see some more photos of this magical cake.
I made a cake a couple of years ago with a Jemima Puddle Duck on top for a friends daughters Christening. And a couple of years on I was lucky enough to be asked to make a Christening cake for their second daughter, this time with Peter Rabbit on top. Keep reading to see some more pics of this cute cake.
It was Dad’s 70th Birthday in the middle of August and he treated us all to a wonderful week away. Em and I discussed various ideas for his Birthday cake design and finally settled on a lawn mowing themed cake as Dad absolutely loves his lawn and mowing beautiful stripes into it! It was always something that we joked about as did his friends and neighbours too! Click here to find out more about this cake.
Emily was super excited about making rainbow bagels this week, she loves rainbows and her favourite breakfast is bagels! We eat and bake quite a lot of bagels in our house, so this challenge was perfect for us. Click here to see how we got on.
We planned our bagel making around Sunday lunch time, so they would be fresh out of the oven in time for lunch. Paul’s recipe can be found here. The recipe was straight forward and the girls enjoyed kneading the dough, Chloe kept trying to eat it again, can’t imagine it tasted too good! I managed to knead in the food colouring in while Emily and Chloe kneaded some of the other bits of dough, so luckily avoided getting their hands coloured too.
Once it had proved I rolled it out while the girls watched and then Emily did a little bit of helping to roll and twist them. They both stood and watched eagerly while I boiled them before they went in the oven.
The end result was super and we really enjoyed them with some cream cheese on for our lunch, delicious, warm and chewy, they definitely put a smile on our faces!
I didn’t get round to uploading any photos of last years ginger bread house but anyone that’s been to our house in the last year will have seen it! It’s been on the sideboard as a permanent feature all year! There’s no chance we’ll eat it now, but it makes a great Christmas decoration and having had baby Chloe just three weeks ago there certainly won’t be time to make one this year! Just over a month ago it was Emily’s 3rd Birthday. Being a typical 3 year old she was changing her mind every day about what kind of party and cake she wanted, slightly tricky when trying to plan things! Her favourite cuddly toy is her panda and so when I suggested that she had a panda themed party and cake, she seemed very excited and the idea stuck, phew! She takes after both her Aunties with her love of pandas. She asked for the cake to have a Mummy panda, a Daddy panda and and Emily panda on as well as some bamboo, so I did a bit of research and came up with a design. Click here to take a look at the panda cake.
Before I watched last weeks episode of The Great British Bake Off I was worried that the technical challenge was going to be a bit strange – I’d seen the trailer with a bright green purée! However, after hearing what was in the cake I was excited to make it since I love pistachios. Click here to keep reading.
I’ve always wanted to have a go at making fondant fancies and a few weeks ago it was my friend Karen’s 30th Birthday and all the food for the party was kids party themed, so this was the perfect opportunity to give them a go. I definitely need a lot more practise as they aren’t the easiest thing to make, but I had a bit of fun trying them out. The party food was great – I can’t remember the last time I had Skips or cheese and pineapple on sticks – amazing! Click here for the recipe.
It was my Birthday last week, so it was time to bake myself a cake and try out some new recipes. I really don’t mind making my own Birthday cake and it gave me the opportunity to try something new. Click here to see which recipe I chose.
