It’s definitely now one of our Christmas traditions to give our best friends Matt and Beckie a Christmas cake as a Christmas present. I love being able to decorate an extra Christmas cake and choose a silly design that will make Ellie and Freddie smile! Click here to see which recipe I used this year.

I keep finding photos of cakes that I made ages ago but never uploaded, so this is quite an old one from over 6 years ago! It was my nephew’s Christening cake. Click here to keep reading.

Yey, GBBO is back! We all enjoyed watching the first episode and getting to know this years bakers. I hadn’t made a red velvet cake for ages, so I was really looking forward to making this and sharing it over the weekend with friends and family. The girls were also very enthusiastic to have a go at the technical challenges again. Click here to see how we got on.

Emily was super excited about making rainbow bagels this week, she loves rainbows and her favourite breakfast is bagels! We eat and bake quite a lot of bagels in our house, so this challenge was perfect for us. Click here to see how we got on.

We planned our bagel making around Sunday lunch time, so they would be fresh out of the oven in time for lunch. Paul’s recipe can be found here. The recipe was straight forward and the girls enjoyed kneading the dough, Chloe kept trying to eat it again, can’t imagine it tasted too good! I managed to knead in the food colouring in while Emily and Chloe kneaded some of the other bits of dough, so luckily avoided getting their hands coloured too.

Once it had proved I rolled it out while the girls watched and then Emily did a little bit of helping to roll and twist them. They both stood and watched eagerly while I boiled them before they went in the oven.

The end result was super and we really enjoyed them with some cream cheese on for our lunch, delicious, warm and chewy, they definitely put a smile on our faces!

We’ve had a really busy couple of months with various wedding cakes and visiting friends and family, so I made the most of a quiet 20 mins earlier while Emily was watching Stickman to write about the cupcakes I made for everyone when we visited friends this weekend. The wedding cake I made a couple of weeks ago had 2 tiers of coffee cake in and I tried a Hummingbird recipe that sounded like it would give an amazing coffee hit. The cake was so good that I decided to make some coffee cupcakes for this weekend too. Click here to take a look at the Hummingbird Bakery’s espresso cupcake recipe.

Hopefully this will be the first of many Christmas baking blogs this year and as usual there are so many scrummy looking recipes to try out it’s going to be hard to narrow it down. As it’s the last Met League before Christmas I couldn’t resist making some red and gold Christmas cupcakes for the Serpie runners. We haven’t been to any xc races yet this season as we now live quite far away and Rich injured his knee recently which has meant he can’t run at the moment. But after 4 years of not being able to run because of a back injury, I am now able to run 6km so I am very excited to be able to take part! Click  here to try out our first Christmas recipe.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt was our parents 40th wedding anniversary on the 30th July so not surprisingly Em and I decided to make them a cake as a present! Celebrating 40 years of marriage is a wonderful occasion, so it had to be a very special cake for two very special people. P1240055.JPGIt’s time for our 1st batch of Christmas baking! As usual I am baking for Serpentine Running Club for the last cross country race before Christmas, so it seemed fitting to make something Christmas theme and in red and gold – the clubs colours. I love the Hummingbird Bakery Christmas cupcake recipe, it has got all the flavours of a Christmas cake, but its lovely and light and is topped with scrummy almond butter cream. Click here to try this recipe.

A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

Making a gingerbread house has become an annual event with my friend Anne. Each year we seem to spend more time talking and drinking tea and less time making and decorating our gingerbread! It’s great fun and hopefully we’ll be doing it for many more years to come. This year I decided to make a bird box and keep the colours simple with just white Royal icing with a few red highlights.
