IMG_5134A couple of weeks ago it was my niece Alice’s Christening and I was very excited to be making the cake for her. I’m not managing to fit much baking or cake decorating in at the moment so it was really nice to have a small cake project to work on! Tams asked for something with butterflies, so we looked at loads of designs and decided on the additions of some painted grass and flowers in pinks and purples and a small grey bunny too. It definitely feels like spring has arrived this week with some gorgeous sunshine and lovely warm weather! So I thought I should upload some photos of these pretty cupcakes. I made them a couple of years ago and have made several similar versions since as the flowers are very easy to make and look really good on top of the cupcakes. I didn’t get round to uploading any photos of last years ginger bread house but anyone that’s been to our house in the last year will have seen it! It’s been on the sideboard as a permanent feature all year! There’s no chance we’ll eat it now, but it makes a great Christmas decoration and having had baby Chloe just three weeks ago there certainly won’t be time to make one this year! IMG_0229Just before Christmas last year, a family friend, Emma, asked if I would be able to make her wedding cake. Despite not living near where the wedding was going to be I said yes since it was near my parents so I thought it would be a good chance to go back to my parents for a few days. However, that didn’t happen – instead mum, dad and Becky came up to stay with me for a few days and then took the cake back. Becky even assembled the cake for me! Click here to keep reading.

cake cornerThis wedding cake was a last minute favour for somebody at work. Luckily though, I didn’t have to make the cake, just ice and decorate an 11″ square fruit. It was a single tier cake and I loved the simplicity of the design they chose – a white cake with purple and lilac flowers around the base.

photo 4 (2)A couple of weeks ago Aimée, one of my friends from work got married. She asked me/I offered to make her wedding cake. As with most of the other wedding cakes I’ve made, she said she wanted something “simple”. Based on past experience “simple” often doesn’t end up being simple! So I searched on Pinterest for “simple purple wedding cake” and showed a couple to her – surprisingly she picked the simplest one. Click here to keep reading.

This week is national cupcake week, possibly the best week of the year! I have been baking lots of cupcakes recently in particular for the hen parties I have been to this month. The 1st of 3 hen parties was for my lovely friend Anna who I met through our running club, she is getting married at the end of the month (look out for the blog about her wedding cake next month). I decided to do something different for her cupcakes rather than making the usual silly rude ones.
