It definitely feels like spring has arrived this week with some gorgeous sunshine and lovely warm weather! So I thought I should upload some photos of these pretty cupcakes. I made them a couple of years ago and have made several similar versions since as the flowers are very easy to make and look really good on top of the cupcakes. Click
It’s always nice for the colour of the cupcakes to match the flavour in some way, so these cupcakes were lemon and lavender flavour. I have made these before and the recipe can be found here. The flowers were made using two different tones of purple florists sugar paste. I cut out the flowers using 2 different sizes of petal cutter and then glued them together with a small amount of edible glue. I then used a wheel tool to make the ‘stitching’ marks down the centre of each petal, before putting into a foam shaper to dry out. I then stuck 3 sugar pearl balls in the middle using a small amount of edible glue. Three balls seems to work really well with this sized flower.
Once the cakes were cooled, the buttercream was piped on and I added some dark purple sugar sprinkles before topping each one with a flower. Very simple to do and easy to adapt to any colour, it’s a great way of using up small amounts of coloured sugar florists paste before it all dries out and goes hard.
