We are the two Glover sisters (Becky and Emma) who share a love of baking and want to share it with you via this blog. Our passion for all things cake-related started when we were little….
We used to sit watching our mum bake cakes each week for the WI. Initially, we probably didn’t help that much – we just used to lick all the bowls and spoons! However, we both got into baking and cooking and started helping our mum out. She used to be a cookery teacher and we remember her teaching us how to make the basics such as a Victoria sponge. Even now, if we have a cookery question, we will ring home and ask for the “cookery helpline” (a.k.a. mum!) to get her advice!
The decorating comes from Mum’s Mum (Grandma Beattie). She’s into her 80’s now and arthritis means that she can’t decorate cakes anymore but we used to be fascinated watching her make sugarpaste flowers for wedding cakes when we were younger.
We have a tradition (which even though neither of us live with our parents anymore we still try to keep up!) of making/decorating a Christmas cake each year. This is what first got us into cake decorating. Looking back at some of the pictures of cakes we’ve made, we would like to think we’ve improved… a bit! Spending the first week of the Christmas holidays each year making Christmas figures to go on the cake definitely taught us the basics of cake decorating.
This blog is a record of the things we’ve baked and decorated – we hope you enjoy reading about them as much as we’ve enjoyed making them… and hopefully you will be inspired to try making some of these things for yourself.
