P1240055.JPGIt’s time for our 1st batch of Christmas baking! As usual I am baking for Serpentine Running Club for the last cross country race before Christmas, so it seemed fitting to make something Christmas theme and in red and gold – the clubs colours. I love the Hummingbird Bakery Christmas cupcake recipe, it has got all the flavours of a Christmas cake, but its lovely and light and is topped with scrummy almond butter cream. Most weekends I bake a loaf of bread. I’m a creature of habit though and always make the same super simple white loaf – it’s one where you mix everything together in a bowl (no kneading required!) and leave for up to 24 hours before shaping and baking. It’s quite a dense loaf but I think it’s perfect freshly baked in the morning and then toasted with scrambled egg on top. I do like trying new breads but often look for reason to try one so I was slightly disappointed with the technical challenge from bread week. However, last week (botanical week), gave us another bread to try and it sounded really good. Click here to keep reading.

IMG_4570Last weekend I went to the wedding of Rob and Sian – Sian and I grew up in the same village and we’ve known each other since we were about 3 years old. As well as being invited to the wedding, I got to make the cake. Tom and I had a great time at the wedding – everything about the day was perfect. Keep reading.

Time for GBBO technical challenge number 2! I love Viennese whirls, the biscuits just melt in your mouth, so I was really pleased with this weeks challenge. I have made them before, but probably about 10 years ago, so it’s nice to give them a go again. Click  here to find out how I got on.

IMG_4268 I’ve made a few cakes for one of our friends, Martin, but this is probably my favourite. When I asked what cake he wanted, Jen, his wife, said he loves Marvel Comics and the Hulk is his favourite. Other than that I had free reign to chose what to make. These are my favourite kind of cakes. After a search on Pinterest I found a few ideas I liked and decided to merge them all into one cake. Click here to keep reading.

I’ve always wanted to have a go at making fondant fancies and a few weeks ago it was my friend Karen’s 30th Birthday and all the food for the party was kids party themed, so this was the perfect opportunity to give them a go. I definitely need a lot more practise as they aren’t the easiest thing to make, but I had a bit of fun trying them out. The party food was great –  I can’t remember the last time I had Skips or cheese and pineapple on sticks – amazing! Click here for the recipe.

It’s been a gorgeous week, full of spring sunshine so I couldn’t resist making some spring cupcakes as a present for Matt and Beckie who looked after Emily on Saturday while Rich and I were at a wedding. Click here to find out how to make these little bugs.
