Over the summer we took the girls to see The Jungle Book at the open air theatre at Hever Castle, Emily absolutely loved it and decided she wanted a Jungle Book themed party for her 6th Birthday. So I set about designing a cake – she was quite specific about the things she wanted included – a waterfall, a tree with the number 6 hanging off it, Mowgli, Baloo and the baby elephant. Click here to see what I created.

I love making cakes that are interesting from all angles, not just from the front and I really liked the idea of doing 2 separate cakes rather than stacking them as tiers. I made all the characters and decorations using florist sugar paste as it’s so nice to work with and sets really hard.

The large tree trunk had a wire inserted into it to keep it straight and allow me to insert it into the cake to secure it. The only bits I made last minute were the brown vines to trail around the cake and the grass to use around the edges of the cake.

The cake itself was a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream ganache. Emily loved her themed Birthday party (just as much as I enjoyed sourcing and making all the decorations!) And her cake was a huge success!
