It’s been a while since Em and added something new to our page, but we’ve still been busy doing plenty of baking! A couple of weeks ago my friends James and Amelia got married and I was thrilled to be asked to make their wedding cake for them. It’s great to be asked to make a cake that’s completely different from anything I’ve done before, so I was very excited when James and Amelia found a photo of a silhouette wedding cake that they really liked. A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

Just before Christmas last year, a family friend, Emma, asked if I would be able to make her wedding cake. Despite not living near where the wedding was going to be I said yes since it was near my parents so I thought it would be a good chance to go back to my parents for a few days. However, that didn’t happen – instead mum, dad and Becky came up to stay with me for a few days and then took the cake back. Becky even assembled the cake for me! Click here to keep reading.

This wedding cake was a last minute favour for somebody at work. Luckily though, I didn’t have to make the cake, just ice and decorate an 11″ square fruit. It was a single tier cake and I loved the simplicity of the design they chose – a white cake with purple and lilac flowers around the base.

A couple of weeks ago Aimée, one of my friends from work got married. She asked me/I offered to make her wedding cake. As with most of the other wedding cakes I’ve made, she said she wanted something “simple”. Based on past experience “simple” often doesn’t end up being simple! So I searched on Pinterest for “simple purple wedding cake” and showed a couple to her – surprisingly she picked the simplest one. Click here to keep reading.

Last weekend was my sister-in-laws wedding and I couldn’t have been more excited! When we arrived at my mother-in-laws on Wednesday evening, it felt just like Christmas, with all the excitement and anticipation of the big day. There’s something really special about a family wedding. I was over the moon to be asked to do the cake and when the design was chosen I was really pleased to discover that it was something different to anything I had attempted before.

Just over seven weeks ago I made this wedding cake for one of best and oldest friends, Nic. It was very different to anything I’d made before – no fondant icing or fancy decorations, just cake and buttercream. Nic and Alex wanted the cake to be the dessert so they chose red velvet (which is also Alex’s favourite cake flavour!). Had I known that the wedding was going to be in a marquee on the hottest day of the year, I probably would have tried to suggest a different cake! Click here to keep reading.

4 years ago two of my old house mates got engaged, they called me up to tell me the exciting news and asked if I would like to make their wedding cake. How could I refuse! I’d never made a wedding cake before so when Chloe suggested a design she liked I spent some time getting advise on how to do it, it wasn’t just a straight forward 3 tier cake. The cake mimicked the design of her beautiful dress. Click here to see this unusual cake.
Ice Climbing Wedding Cake

I love being asked to make cakes. But I love it even more when I get asked to make something that I haven’t made before, especially if it’s going to be a challenge. So I was pretty excited when Tom’s brother, Rem, asked if I would make his wedding cake. Of course I said yes, and came up with some suggestions. I gave them some traditional ideas but knowing that they both like rock climbing I said they could have something a bit alternative. I sent them a few photos of ideas and was pleased when they went with the ice climbing one – the white made it look more like a wedding cake than some of the other ones I found. Just under a year ago my sister got engaged. I was extremely excited – not just because there was going to be a wedding, but also because I was going to get to make the cake! We made a deal a while ago that rather than making our own cake, we would make each other’s. Click here to keep reading.
