Em and Mark finally got married in June this year after several postponements due to Covid, but it was worth the wait! It was such an amazing day and we all have some very special memories of it. As Em made my wedding cake, it was my turn to return the favour and make her cake. Keep reading to find out more about her cake and one of the recipes.

Em and Mark had lots of different ideas for their cake, but they eventually settled on a design with figures of themselves and Millie on top, some flowers to match some of ones in Em’s bouquet and mountains painted around the outside to tie in with their wedding theme and love for the outdoors.

I absolutely love making figures and adding touches to make things as personal as possible. Even down to the design of Em’s dress, her hair, Marks outfit, button hole and of course Millie.

I’d never painted on a cake before, so I watched lots of YouTube videos and did some research to enable me to get the finish I wanted. In the end the best option was to use watered down food colouring in various blue, green, grey and black tones. I had a lot of fun practicing and experimenting on rolled out sugar paste.

They chose to have 1 tier of rocky road and 1 tier of lemon, elderflower and white chocolate cake. The recipe can be found here. I made the cake and the buttercream, but ended up making white chocolate ganache to cover the cake rather than the buttercream as it was just too soft to go under the sugar paste – but it was a wonderful buttercream recipe and I used it to sandwich all the off cuts together which I popped in the freezer and we enjoyed over the summer!

We all had such an amazing day, the girls loved being flower girls and playing their part and we couldn’t get Emily off the dance floor! Congratulations Em and Mark!

So beautiful!
