Another week down, another technical challenge done! Phew! I really liked the idea of custard week, and we were very excited to see that the technical was ice cream – I make a lot of ice cream, so I was looking forward to this one. Click here to keep reading.

Prue’s recipe can be found here. I had a read of the recipe and couldn’t quite believe there were 9 egg yolks! So now I have loads of egg white to make a giant pavlova for Rich’s Birthday in mid November. I always get a bit nervous making custard, especially using so many egg yolks, I didn’t like the the thought of having to re-do it if it went wrong and ending up using even more eggs! Luckily it all went smoothly.

I couldn’t get hold or Iranian pistachios so just used normal ones. And I didn’t own a waffle cone maker and when I went online to buy one they had sold out everywhere! So I reluctantly bought waffle cones from the supermarket. I have since managed to get a waffle cone maker and can’t wait to have a go at making my own cones for next time. We were going to my parents for lunch on Sunday for roast beef, so I offered to bring the ice cream as pudding. Everyone loved it, even Mum – she’s not normally an ice cream fan especially in autumn/winter as it makes her too cold, but it was nearly 20 degrees on Sunday and the ice cream was too good to miss!

I think yours came out fantastically. I learned something about why you cannot place the warm ice cream/custard mixture directly into the freezer too. Love your bakes. I always wonder if yours are taking longer than the ones on the show. It would take me twice as long and probably not turn out that nicely LOL.
