A few weeks ago my close friends James and Jen had a beautiful baby girl. I was keen to make some cupcakes as a gift, but having made the baby face ones several times I was looking to try out something different.
I found this idea on Pinterest and thought the design looked simple and elegant. I baked the cakes in some baby girl feet patterned cupcake cases. I made raspberry lemonade flavour, the recipe can be found here.
To decorate I used the butter cream to create a dome and left them to harden in the fridge. I coloured a small amount of fondant pink, enough to cover the top of 2 cupcakes. I rolled it out and cut two circles slightly larger than the top of the cupcakes. I then placed the fondant on top and smoothed it with the palm of my hand. With the left over bit of pink fondant, I added a bit of white fondant to it, enough to cover 2 cupcakes and mixed it together to make a paler pink. I then rolled this out and cut 2 circles to top the next 2 cupcakes. I then covered the remaining 2 cupcakes in white fondant. I used a small rose petal cutter and cut out a very thin piece of white fondant to use on one of the pink cupcakes as in the picture.
I mixed up a small amount of royal icing and put it in a piping bag with a small nozzle, Wilton no 3. I then arranged the cupcakes in 2 rows of 3 next to each other so that when I piped the pattern it matched up. Once done I put them in a pink chequered box. It was a very simple but effective design that made a perfect present.
