We are both very excited that the Great British Bake Off has started again! And despite the move to Channel 4 we were pleased to see that the format is exactly the same and although we miss Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, the new presenters did a great job. So it’s now time to start trying all the technical bakes again! It has got off to a good start, chocolate mini rolls looked like a great challenge and something I haven’t made before. Click
The recipe for the chocolate mini rolls can be found here. When I read the instructions and the recipe, I realised I didn’t have 2 tins of the correct size, so I ended up making all the mixture in one go and risked leaving half on the side while the 1st half baked and then re-used the tin for the next one. Luckily the 2nd one still worked. I was very conscious of not over folding the mixture and loosing all the air, so I ended up with a few bits of whisked egg white that weren’t quite mixed in properly – but it didn’t affect the taste and they were covered in chocolate anyway.
The only real problem I had was covering them in melted chocolate – I used up all my chocolate and only managed to cover 4 mini rolls – the rest was in a huge chocolatey puddle underneath! I had put a silicone liner under the cooling rack when I poured the chocolate over and I managed to pick it up and pour the chocolate back into the pan, I think I must have done this about 5 times and eventually got them all covered. But it was more time consuming that I thought! Overall they were really yummy and didn’t last long – we took them to a picnic on Sunday lunch time and they all got eaten!
The chocolate part was so fiddly! Glad it wasn’t just me these look delicious . Looking toward to seeing your fortune cookies!
