For the last few years I’ve made a Christmas cake for the office to be raffled off for charity. Having been on holiday for 3 weeks at the end of November/start of December I haven’t had much time to do much Christmas baking, and still haven’t decided how I’m going to decorate my own cake this year but I offered to make a cake for the office so yesterday I spent a couple of hours making this!
Luckily I found a design that was quick to make- a plain iced cake and I didn’t have to colour too much icing. I shaped Santa’s body, legs and hat separately and rolled out some ‘sausages’ of white icing to go round the edges for the fur trim. I then made his hands, feet, head and midriff out of skin coloured icing. His underpants were made from white icing and I painted the holly on. I then coloured a small amount of green icing for the bottle and black icing for his shoes.
Before I placed him on the cake I used my finger to create a dent in the icing to make it look like Santa had sunk into the snow. Finally I dusted him with icing sugar.
The charity this month in the office is Changing Lives – hopefully this cake will help raise some extra money!
