Can’t believe the bake off is over again for another year! It’s been another great series and I’ve really enjoyed watching it. I am quite relieved there are no more technical challenges though! I haven’t enjoyed them as much as previous years as some of them have been a bit obscure and required special equipment which has made trying the recipes at home a bit more challenging. I was tempted to get Rich to have a go at this one on the BBQ, but decided against it! I used the grill and a griddle pan instead. Click
Paul’s recipe can be found here. Emily helped me weigh out all the ingredients for the pitta breads and we then put it in the mixer with the dough hook to save a bit of time (and mess!). I ended up leaving it for 3 hours to prove as it was quite a cold day and nothing had happened after an hour.
I put all the veg under the grill to char it and cook it before peeling and chopping it all up. Emily enjoyed stirring everything together for each of the dips and measuring out the oil and vinegar too.
After 3 hours the dough had proved enough so I divided it into 6 and rolled it out into oval shapes. I couldn’t manage to get sumac in my local supermarket so I read that lemon zest is a good substitute, so I used that instead. The griddle pan worked well and they puffed up nicely!
We had them for dinner with some griddled chicken and they were delicious! The dips were all amazing and I would definitely make them again.
