This year on Christmas jumper Friday at Emily and Chloe’s nursery they had a cake sale to raise money for Save the Children. So I couldn’t resist offering to bake some Christmas themed cupcakes for them to sell to help raise some money. I needed a design that I could make in advance, so these Father Christmas cupcake toppers were perfect. Click
I made these from a mix of normal sugarpaste mixed with sugar florist paste so they would harden up enough to stay flat on top of the cakes, but not be so hard that they were difficult for the kids to eat. I started by using a small round crinkle edge cutter to make the white beard and cut out a smaller circle in the middle. Then I cut out a circle of skin coloured sugarpaste that was slightly bigger than the hole in the white. Next I cut circles out of red sugarpaste and cut a small bit off the top for the hat. I then cut lots of white strips and used the same round cutter that I used for the hat to cut the white strip at the bottom of the hat.
I cut red triangles for the end of the hat and some small white circles for the bobble. Next I used some red to roll small balls for his nose. I cut some small circles using the other end of a piping nozzle, then cut them in half and stuck them on for the moustache. Each step was simple and easy to do but it ended up taking quite a lot of time by the time I had done 36 of them! But I was really please with the result, very simple and the kids loved them!
