At the end of November is was Chloe’s 4th Birthday, she was very specific that she wanted a flamingo and rainbow Birthday cake and the rainbows needed to be around the sides of the cake. So we had a look on Pinterest for some ideas and I put together a rough design. Keep reading to find out more.

I absolutely loved making all the decorations for Chloe’s cake, the rainbows were really fun to make. Each colour was rolled into a thin long sausage then starting with a small amount of purple, I curved it and brushed the outside edge with edible glue, then curved the blue around, continuing with all the other colours. Once the red was on I cut the ends to tidy it up. Then rolled out some white sugar florist paste and cut varying sized circles for the clouds and stuck them on. I wedged an 8” cake tin on its side to stop it rolling and gently placed the rainbows on it to dry, so they dried with a slight curve allowing them to stick better onto the cake once it was iced.

The flamingos were modelled using light and dark pink sugar florist paste and left to dry. The large flamingo for the top of the cake had a thick florist wire inserted into one of its legs to give it stability and allow me to poke it into the top of the cake without it falling over.

Chloe really loved her cake, I think it ticked all the boxes! This cake definitely made everyone smile, such a fun design!
What a creative and fun way to make a birthday cake! The details are amazing and the end result is adorable.
