It was Emily’s 8th Birthday a couple of weeks ago and this year she decided she wanted a Welsh rugby ball cake. She also wanted the Bake Off chocolate fudge cake as it was so yummy, so I managed to reshape the left over huge cake from week 1 of the Bake Off and turn it into rugby ball. Perfect! I wasn’t too sure how easy it would be to put the sugar paste onto the rugby ball shaped cake, but actually it went on really nicely. I then rolled out lots of red sugar paste and carefully cut it to size for the stripes/pattern on it, I brushed them lightly with water to secure them in place.

To make the Welsh Emblem I carefully drew on the rolled out red sugar paste with the sharp pin like too I usually use for popping air bubbles when I cover a cake. Then I used a small sharp knife to cut it out, luckily it was all made up of straight lines, so it wasn’t as tricky as it looks! After covering the board with green sugar paste I placed the cake on top and then using some green sugar florist paste I cut some grass to add around the bottom of the ball. Emily absolutely loved it and we all enjoyed round two of the chocolate fudge cake!
