Last weekend was an epic baking weekend – I managed to make four cakes and a batch of cupcakes. I’m still not entirely sure how I fitted it all. Especially since I had a cake disaster – my first one ever. I guess I was due one! I still don’t know what went wrong, but a sponge cake exploded – it was like a volcano. We tried a bit and it tasted like vanilla sponge should so I’m completely baffled.
Tom’s doing a pretty good job of “selling” my minion cakes (I hope he doesn’t start to charge me commission) – 3 of the 4 minions I’ve made were for people he works with… And the other? That was the first one which Tom took into work! This one was for one of the nurses – she asked if I’d be willing to make one for her daughter Ruby’s, fourth birthday.
She sent me a picture of Ruby’s favourite minion – I didn’t want to make the wrong one! In the picture it had a big smile and looked like it was waving, which gave me the idea to try to make it with its arms up. I used wooden kebab sticks to keep the arms up – the weight started to make them fall a bit though so I had to put in a few extra supports to keep them up. Other than that I made it in the same way as the first one which you can find here.
Apparently the minion went down really well – it’s always nice to get messages saying how much a cake was appreciated 🙂 And now it’s time to start planning minion number 5…
