It was Emily’s 2nd Birthday last Friday and to celebrate we had a small family party at the weekend. She absolutely loves Old MacDonald at the moment and we seem to spend every car journey singing it, along with all sorts of animals as well as some vehicles (usually fire engines and boats) and other random things like peas and macaroni cheese! So I decided to do a farm themed party and an Old MacDonald cake. Click
I spent a lot of time on Pinterest searching for ideas and saw a picture of the most amazing cake. I don’t usually like to do an exact copy of a cake as there are always a few things I would change, but this cake was so perfect I wanted to use the exact design (which can be seen here). The credit for this amazing design goes to Tracey from the Little Cherry Cherry Cake Company. After discovering her website I then spent hour looking through all her incredible cakes, they are just brilliant!
Making and decorating cakes around looking after a toddler can be tricky, so I made all the animals and other details well in advance to ensure there was no last minute panic. Then all I had to do before the weekend was bake the cakes, ice them and stick the decorations on, simple! Although it always takes much longer than I think!
Emily had seen all the decorations and was very excited about them. I wanted to keep the final cake a surprise for her but I needed to take some photos of it on Saturday morning so she saw it and ran over to have a look. It was lovely to see her reaction and how happy she was! She loved discovering all the animals and ‘Old Donald’ the farmer!
The party was a big success and we still have all the animal decorations up around the house. I think I’ll be in trouble if I try and take them down!
