We all love chocolate cake in our house and especially a cake with lots of buttercream and ganache! So we were very happy to try this recipe out this weekend. It also made the perfect pudding for our friends who came over for lunch on Sunday, both the grown ups and kids loved it. Click here to see how we got on.

The girls helped weigh out some of the ingredients but it was a bit of a tricky recipe for them to help with as it was definitely much more technical than the previous challenges. The recipe can be found here. I completely forgot to add the melted butter to the sponge mixture and had already started diving it up on the baking trays, so I had to scoop it back into the bowl to fold in the butter. I was a bit worried that I would knock all the air out but luckily it seem ok. The last 2 sponges were definitely a bit flatter than the others as the mixture had been sitting around for a while by the time I baked them, but luckily once assembled you couldn’t really tell.

I assembled the sponge with the custard buttercream and left it in the tin over night to chill as I ran out of time in the evening to finish it. Then did the crumb coat and ganache the next morning. I also didn’t have enough time to make the crowns, which Emily was a bit disappointed with and told me in her best Paul Hollywood impression that I would have come second in the challenge as the crowns were missing! We all really enjoyed eating it, it was super chocolatey and smooth, we’ll definitely be making this again when we have time!
