Having done every challenge last week and then this week we had Emily’s Birthday on Friday, lunch out on Saturday and a huge chocolate cake to eat, I decided that just doing half the recipe was enough! So one each for Rich and me and then one for the girls to share. I still have some blackcurrants in the freezer from Em’s garden which was lucky. Click here to keep reading.

I don’t often share photos of the bread I bake, but most weeks I bake bread at least twice, sometimes 5 or 6 times, I absolutely love it! I tend to make milk bread loaves or rolls for breakfast/toast for the girls and sourdough for Rich and me. Then at the weekend we quite often have some kind of enriched dough for breakfast as a treat, any variety of cinnamon buns, babka’s, cruffins, croissants, brioche etc. And now it’s getting colder we’ll be having more soup for lunch which means I can try more savoury bread recipes too. I find it really enjoyable and rewarding. I couldn’t resist making these straight away and having them for breakfast this morning!

I was very tempted this week to have a go at an illusion biscuit bake, but realised it would take far too long, so settled for doing the technical again and you can’t beat a good custard cream! I baked with the girls again on Saturday but due to how long these took to chill and cut out I had to finish them off after bed time, but it meant we had a big box to take with us to the rugby festival on Sunday and share with the team. Earlier on this year we decided to pick a country each and then cook traditional food from that country for a whole week. It took quite a lot of planning and research, but it was really good fun and definitely something we will continue to try every so often. I picked Mexico, so I was keen to try out some Mexican bakes, click here to keep reading.

We were all very excited for the start of the new series of the Great British Bake Off last week. And even more excited when we found out the technical challenge was the iconic chocolate cake with the missing raspberry! We had no plans for Sunday afternoon so it was the perfect opportunity to give this a go with the girls. Click here to see how we got on.
