I can’t believe this series of Bake Off is almost over, we’ve really enjoyed it once again and loved trying the technical challenges each week. There has only been one savoury bake this year, and with both girls Birthdays and Rich’s Birthday too, we have eaten a lot of cake over the last couple of months! Click here to see how I got on with this challenge.

We were all very much looking forward to enjoying this recipe over the weekend, we all love apples and this looked really good. The recipe can be found here. I managed to get cox apples and red apples for the top – although my tart tin was slightly smaller than the recommended one and my red apples to slice for the top were very tall, so the slices were very long which meant I didn’t get quite as many rows in and only used 2 out of the 4 apples.

I also didn’t manage to get any calvados, so used cherry brandy instead which was still delicious and went very well with the frangipane. And I couldn’t get hold of any apricots as it’s completely the wrong season, so just glazed it with a bit of the lemon sugar syrup instead. Mine took slightly longer to bake than the recipe said, but it was worth the wait, it tasted amazing served with some Chantilly cream.
