I only started this blog at the end of September 2012 but I’d done a lot of baking before that – I hadn’t realised quite how much until I started drafting this post. Although I’ve manged to post some of the things I made at the start of the year, I doubt they’ll all make it onto here in their entirety.
January
I started the year off with an order of vanilla flutterby cupcakes (which coincidentally are what I chose for my first blog post).
February
Despite February being the shortest month of the year I managed to fit in loads of baking – I guess I made the most of the the extra day due to the leap year! Towards the end of the month, I made these poker themed cupcakes for Paul’s last day in the office.
March
I had great fun making this chocolate cake topped with Brian the Snail (from the Magic Roundabout) for Jen’s dad’s 60th birthday in March.
April
I went back to my mum and dad’s for the long Easter weekend since Tom was still in Afghanistan. My mum and I attempted to make macaroons for the first time – must have been beginners luck because they worked perfectly!
May
We went on an amazing 2 and half week holiday to the Caribbean and less than 24 hours after we got back to the UK we headed over to France for Tom’s dad’s 70th birthday party. Despite being severly jet lagged I somehow managed to fit in making a beehive cake for his dad before we set off to France. I think I must have slept for the rest of the month after we got back from France since I don’t seem to have made anything else in May!
June
At the end of June it was my grandparent’s diamond wedding anniversary. My mum made the cake and asked if I would decorate it for her – it was my first attempt at sugar paste roses!
July
July saw the start of the Olympics so I took the opportunity to make some Olympic cupcakes for the office. I copied the symbols for each sport off the BBC website to ice some biscuits to go on top of cupcakes to represent the various Olympic sports.
August
Jhuen left our team towards the end of August and since she’s tiny but eats more than most people I know, I made some tiramisu cupcakes with labels saying “belonging to Jhuen” – I also made the cookie monster cupcakes at the top of this post for her!
September
I started my blog at the end of September and I think I’ve managed to blog about everything I’ve made since then, but my favourite cupcakes from September were the chocolate daisy ones which I made for a charity cake sale.
October
I loved the autumn leaf biscuits I made in October – I think I might try to make something similar for spring this year.

November
The Toblerone cupcakes I made in November were one of my favourite flavours of cupcakes – the buttercream tasted just like Toblerone and I could have eaten a whole tub of the Toblerone fudge filling (although I’d have probably been sick if I had!)
December
I made so many things in December, a lot of which were Christmas related, that I thought it would be hard to pick just one. However, the baby boy cupcakes I made for Karein before she went on maternity leave, might be top of the list of all the cupcakes I’ve ever made – I think they are the first cakes I’ve made which I’ve looked at and thought that I couldn’t eat them because they looked too cute!
I think I might actually be your biggest fan Emma! All of your creations really are works of art! I really really hope you start up your own business soon. If Becky has asked you to do her wedding cake, I cannot wait to see it! (although obviously nothing will beat the wedding cake she made for me!). xx
Thank you (although I think my mum will want to take the title of my biggest fan off you)! Becky has indeed asked me to make her wedding cake – just waiting to see what she wants me to make!! Got another one to make this year too but I agree, that it will be hard to beat the one she made for you – it was stunning! I hope you’re enjoying being a mum and are managing to get some sleep! xx
Yes, Mum is your biggest fan!!
haha! I thought you might have something to say about that! xxx
