Last weekend it was my sister’s hen do. With the help of her other bridesmaid (and future sister-in-law), I organised a weekend away in a cottage. Apart from the date, we wanted it all to be a complete surprise for her. She’d come up with a long list of ideas but I pointed out to her that we were organising it and not her! However, I wanted her to enjoy the weekend so we did listen to some of her suggestions, one of which was having a theme for the Saturday, which was girly and everyone could get dressed up for. She suggested 1920s but since she’s been to a few 1920s parties before I wanted to do something different. So we decided to do a 1950s American Diner theme –
We asked people to get dressed up in 1950s dresses with big petticoats, had an ice cream parlour for pudding, and sent out invites which looked like a 1950s diner menu. I also tried to theme the afternoon tea – ice cream cake pops, strawberry milkshake cupcakes and mint choc chip macaroons. Since it was a hen do, we also had to have some cheeky biscuits!
It ended up being quite late by the time we got round to having afternoon tea – we’d done a high wires course in the morning and didn’t get back until about 2pm so had a very late lunch. We then had to shower and get dressed up – everyone looked great in their dresses though and somehow we managed to fit around the table with our big petticoats on.
Keep an eye out for the recipes which will be appearing over the next couple of weeks!
The best afternoon tea EVER! xxx
I’m glad you enjoyed it! xxx
