P1170242AIf you follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter you’ll probably have seen some baking over the last 12 months that hasn’t made it onto the blog. Sometimes we spend so much time baking that it’s hard to find the time to blog about our creations, especially since we also work. So here is a collection of things we made in 2014 that you might not have seen yet.

hatching chick cupcakesI have so many things to blog about that I struggled to decide which one to start with. After the lovely spring weather this weekend though I though it would be appropriate to blog about these little hatching chick cupcakes first. Are you ready to watch some chicks hatch into cupcakes?

Hen Do Baking!

20131105-174947.jpg Last weekend it was my sister’s hen do. With the help of her other bridesmaid (and future sister-in-law), I organised a weekend away in a cottage. Apart from the date, we wanted it all to be a complete surprise for her. She’d come up with a long list of ideas but I pointed out to her that we were organising it and not her! However, I wanted her to enjoy the weekend so we did listen to some of her suggestions, one of which was having a theme for the Saturday, which was girly and everyone could get dressed up for. She suggested 1920s but since she’s been to a few 1920s parties before I wanted to do something different. So we decided to do a 1950s American Diner theme – keep reading to find out more!

My big sister turned 30 last weekend – HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY!! I wanted her to a have a really special day and of course, that included making her a birthday cake she would never forget. Like me, she loves baking and decorating cakes so she probably would have liked to make her own, but when I saw a picture of this cake here a while ago I knew straight away that I had to make it for her – she’s a triathlete so what could be more appropriate than a 3 tier triathlon cake?! If she feels that she’s missed out on the baking and decorating, I guess I’ll let her make mine in a couple of years! Click here to keep reading.

red nose cupcakeI wanted to make some cupcakes which looked amazing for the bake off in the office yesterday to enter into the showstopper category. I’d looked through my Hello Cupcake book on Monday night but nothing jumped out so I asked Bertie in the office for ideas – she said I should make “the bear”… I think she was getting mixed up with Children in Need! But it did give me the idea of making Red Noses. This year’s noses are pretty cool and even have feet (they’re meant to be “di-nose-saurs”) but I decided making them 100% identical would take too long given I had other stuff to bake too, so I took the simplest one and based it on that. gingerbread mittens

On Thursday night last week there was an amber warning in place for heavy snowfall overnight and all day Friday. It was also bitterly cold. Despite turning the heating on and having the fire on as soon as I got home, it still felt cold so I decided that in order to warm the house up a bit more, the best option was to turn the oven on. And if the oven is on then it’s rude not to bake something. So I decided to try out a new recipe for gingerbread biscuits – they keep for ages and they’re perfect dunked into tea. I cut some of it up to build some sledges and then the rest I used to make mittens.

Do you need some mittens to warm up? Yes I do!
