Sometimes simple is best – and when you’re short on time, it always is. I know that it I can get a batch of cupcakes made and iced with buttercream in just over an hour. However, I usually underestimate how long decorations take to make. These snowflakes though are super quick to make, and anybody can make them since the only skills required are being able to roll fondant icing out and use a plunger cutter.
The only pale coloured cupcake cases I had were ivory. Ideally I would have made them in white, silver or pale blue cases. Because the cases weren’t white, the white snowflakes looked a bit bright at first, but I managed to sort it out by dusting them with some shimmer dust that had a gold tint to it (although it hasn’t come out in the photos very well).
They really were as simple to make as I’ve said. I made 24 chocolate cupcakes, piped chocolate buttercream on top of each one using a Wilton number 20 nozzle and then sprinkled some tiny ivory sugar pearls onto each one. To make the snowflakes I rolled out some white fondant icing until it was about 1mm thick and then used a set of snowflake plunger cutters to cut out 12 large snowflakes and 24 small snowflakes. I then placed either one large or two small snowflakes onto each cupcake.
So if you’re running out of time for decorating this Christmas, give these a go!
