Although this one isn’t strictly a Christmas recipe, everyone loves a chocolate brownie and these are really good, the salty pretzels add a yummy crunch and using these Christmas ones adds a festive touch. Click here to see the recipe.

Here’s the recipe from Olive Magazine.
150g butter
250g dark chocolate chopped
200g soft light brown sugar
3 eggs
100g sourdough starter discard
Sea salt flakes
50g cocoa powder
75g self raising flour
30g pretzels
Heat the oven to 180C or 160C fan, butter a 20cm square tin and line with baking paper.
Tip 200g of the chocolate plus all the butter into a pan and set over a low heat and stir till it’s all melted. Remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly.
Crack the eggs into the cooled chocolate mixture one at a time whisking well after each one.
Add the sourdough starter and a pinch of sea salt. Mix to combine.
Stir in the cocoa powder and flour, then fold everything together.
Pour into the prepared tin, scatter over the remaining 50g of chocolate and the pretzels. Sprinkle with a few more sea salt flakes if you like.
Bake for 20-25 mins until the top is cracked but there is still a little wobble in the middle. Remove from the oven and cool in the tin until ready to slice.

I love the smell of baking sourdough and these certainly had that smell as well as being super chocolatey. You couldn’t really taste the sourdough taste though as they were so amazingly chocolatey and the added salted pretzels were a perfect addition! I found the snowflake pretzels in Aldi and thought they were great to make these look more festive.
