One of the guys I work with, Adam, was running so I decided to make some cupcakes to raise some money for the charity he was running for – Birmingham Children’s Hospital. I was going to make some running themed cupcakes but his nickname in the office is “Sherlock” (because he looks a bit like Benedict Cumberbatch), so I decided to make some Sherlock Holmes cupcakes. It’s not that I haven’t baked anything, it’s more the fact that Tom came home – despite the fact he seems to be working constantly I suddenly have less free time! Anyway, I made this cake last weekend, with my sister. It was for our great Aunt’s 90th birthday – happy birthday Auntie Joan! We didn’t want to do just a plain sponge so the cake was lemon & poppy seed with a raspberry curd filling and a lemon buttercream – it was very light and delicious. Click here to keep reading.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALast year I made my friend Ro a birthday cake. It was huge. So, this year when she invited me to her 30th birthday celebrations, I asked her if I could make her a giant birthday cake again. Her response was “that is possibly the silliest question I’ve ever heard”. In the end though, it wasn’t as big as the previous year – I think it would have been hard to beat it! I wanted to make two fruity cocktails and two non-fruity so after asking a few people for suggestions, I decided on White Russian as one of the non-fruity ones.
