I’d never made a 100th Birthday cake before, so I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to make one. It was for our close friend’s Granny, who is called Rose, so the request for pink roses on the cake was perfect. The cake was a light fruit cake, a delicious recipe from an old cook book that our Mum has, great for this time of year! Click here for the recipe.

A few weeks ago my close friends James and Jen had a beautiful baby girl. I was keen to make some cupcakes as a gift, but having made the baby face ones several times I was looking to try out something different. Click here to find out what I made…

This week is national cupcake week, possibly the best week of the year! I have been baking lots of cupcakes recently in particular for the hen parties I have been to this month. The 1st of 3 hen parties was for my lovely friend Anna who I met through our running club, she is getting married at the end of the month (look out for the blog about her wedding cake next month). I decided to do something different for her cupcakes rather than making the usual silly rude ones.

A few weeks ago I wanted to make some cupcakes to take over to my friend Jen’s for her mini “hen weekend”. They needed to be suitable girly but I didn’t have a huge amount of time to make and decorate them. So I decided to make these – inspired by some my sister made for a hen do! Last week I had a week from hell at work – 60 hours worth of hell. However, I’d agreed a while ago to make these cakes for a friend in the office. I didn’t want to let her down so last Thursday evening I somehow managed to fit in making them. They had to be pastel pinks, purples and white, some with 21’s on, some with Jodie’s on and some with both on so I came up with a design I wanted to do. However, I was too tired to make them exactly as planned – I guess I’ll just have to save that design for another time.

Butterfly Cupcakes
So, what should I do for my first post?! I guess I should start with something simple! The cupcakes I probably make most often are plain vanilla or chocolate – usually because they always go down well and they’re quick and easy to make, giving me plenty of time to decorate them! My favourite recipes are from The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book – they’re simple to make, they always come out perfectly and I know they taste good! And the decoration I’ve made the most? Probably these chocolate flutterbies. Although I’ve only made them four times – I like trying new things!
