P1240055.JPGIt’s time for our 1st batch of Christmas baking! As usual I am baking for Serpentine Running Club for the last cross country race before Christmas, so it seemed fitting to make something Christmas theme and in red and gold – the clubs colours. I love the Hummingbird Bakery Christmas cupcake recipe, it has got all the flavours of a Christmas cake, but its lovely and light and is topped with scrummy almond butter cream. IMG_4570Last weekend I went to the wedding of Rob and Sian – Sian and I grew up in the same village and we’ve known each other since we were about 3 years old. As well as being invited to the wedding, I got to make the cake. Tom and I had a great time at the wedding – everything about the day was perfect. Keep reading.

May was a busy month for cakes, so I didn’t get round to writing about any of them or putting any photos up. So now things are a little quieter (well for five minutes at least) I thought I would put some photos up of the coolest cake I made in May! Click  here to see more photos of this crazy cake.

IMG_4268 I’ve made a few cakes for one of our friends, Martin, but this is probably my favourite. When I asked what cake he wanted, Jen, his wife, said he loves Marvel Comics and the Hulk is his favourite. Other than that I had free reign to chose what to make. These are my favourite kind of cakes. After a search on Pinterest I found a few ideas I liked and decided to merge them all into one cake. Click here to keep reading.

A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

IMG_3564I made an Easter cake again this year for a charity raffle at work. Unfortunately I was ill the week before so didn’t have as much time as last year and had to choose a simpler design. Sometimes simple is best but I think I still prefer the cake I made last year. The cake this year was being raffled on Wednesday so I made a Simnel cake from the BBC website that would last until the Easter weekend. IMG_3427In 1957 our Grandpa, Alf Denning, opened a hardware shop on the Bristol Road in Northfield, Birmingham. It was called Denning’s Hardware and sold everything from a single nail, to wheelbarrows. As kids we often used to visit the shop when we went up to Birmingham to see our grandparents. I remember running round the shop with the sticker gun and using it to “price” ourselves! Click here to see what tools are for sale!
