It was our parents 40th wedding anniversary on the 30th July so not surprisingly Em and I decided to make them a cake as a present! Celebrating 40 years of marriage is a wonderful occasion, so it had to be a very special cake for two very special people. It’s time for our 1st batch of Christmas baking! As usual I am baking for Serpentine Running Club for the last cross country race before Christmas, so it seemed fitting to make something Christmas theme and in red and gold – the clubs colours. I love the Hummingbird Bakery Christmas cupcake recipe, it has got all the flavours of a Christmas cake, but its lovely and light and is topped with scrummy almond butter cream. A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

Making a gingerbread house has become an annual event with my friend Anne. Each year we seem to spend more time talking and drinking tea and less time making and decorating our gingerbread! It’s great fun and hopefully we’ll be doing it for many more years to come. This year I decided to make a bird box and keep the colours simple with just white Royal icing with a few red highlights. Last weekend we had a Reunion/ Christmas get together with our NCT friends, which we offered to host. Baking with a 7 week old baby is challenging, but I was desperate to bake something Christmassy and fun! I chose a design that could be done in stages so I could fit it in around looking after little Emily. Click here to see what I baked.

This week has been a busy cake week. I usually find that if somebody asks me to make a cake, it usually ends up being for a week when I’m already making one. This week I’ve made two very different cakes, but both had a football theme. The first one I made was this one – a Sunderland football shirt.

One of the things I love about baking is seeing people enjoying eating my baked goodies. The most appreciative bunch of people has to be hungry runners from my running club after a cross country race! Click here to see the red and yellow cupcakes I have made.

Since discovering that we have tawny owls living in the woods near us, I have found a new love for these gorgeous birds. They make the most amazing mystical “twit twoo” sound which we hear most evenings. So it seems very appropriate to blog about these cute little owl cupcakes. Click here to find out how to make them.
Rustic Red Velvet Wedding Cake

Just over seven weeks ago I made this wedding cake for one of best and oldest friends, Nic. It was very different to anything I’d made before – no fondant icing or fancy decorations, just cake and buttercream. Nic and Alex wanted the cake to be the dessert so they chose red velvet (which is also Alex’s favourite cake flavour!). Had I known that the wedding was going to be in a marquee on the hottest day of the year, I probably would have tried to suggest a different cake! Click here to keep reading.

One of the girls in the office, Simran, loves the Hummingbird Bakery and always goes when she’s in London. Her favourite flavour cupcake/the one she always has is this one: red velvet with a cream cheese frosting. So I promised that I would, at some point, make some red velvet cupcakes to bring into the office. I eventually got round to making them last summer. And it’s taken me just as long to get round to blogging about them. If you can’t wait any longer for a red velvet cupcake click here.
