A few weeks ago we had friends to stay for the weekend, I was hoping that the technical challenge would be something suitable for dessert on Saturday night so I was very pleased when we watched episode 4 to see that it would be the perfect pudding!
Last year I had a minor operation on my left hand just before Easter so I wasn’t able to make and decorate an Easter cake, so this year I had to make up for it by creating something special. I took inspiration from a flower pot cake that I had seen and reused the two bunnies I had kept safe in a box from the Easter cake I made a few years ago. I also tried a new simnel cake recipe that had chocolate in and pistachio marzipan. Click here to see more pics of this colourful cake and try the recipe.
I love being asked to do cakes for the girls friends, kid’s Birthday cakes are always so much fun and creative! A couple of weeks ago I made a mermaid cake for one of Chloe’s friends, click here to see some more pics.
It was Mum’s 70th Birthday just before Christmas and she rarely has a Birthday cake as her Birthday is so close to Christmas. But as it was her 70th we had to do something special, so along with all the other Birthday surprises I made her an illusion cake based on a casserole pot and veg as cooking is still one of her favourite things to do. I love being asked to make something a little bit different so I was very excited to be asked to make a cake in the design of the Birthday girls favourite ice cream dress! I spent some time looking at various ice cream cake designs and came up with a plan, click here to see more pics of this fun cake.
I just can’t resist making more than one Christmas cake each year, so once again this one will be a Christmas present for our best friends. I chose to make some cute little gnomes and add some other pops of colour and some snowflakes. Click here to see some more pics.
I’m feeling a bit behind with Christmas stuff this year, but priority is always to get the Christmas cakes done. I wanted to make a different shaped one this year so I thought I would make a big snowman. Click here to keep reading.
It was Chloe’s 5th Birthday at the end of November and once again she was very specific about the cake she wanted! She chose a bunny design with pink, blue and purple flowers and requested the bake off chocolate fudge cake with some salted caramel between each layer – good choice Chloe! It was Emily’s 8th Birthday a couple of weeks ago and this year she decided she wanted a Welsh rugby ball cake. She also wanted the Bake Off chocolate fudge cake as it was so yummy, so I managed to reshape the left over huge cake from week 1 of the Bake Off and turn it into rugby ball. Perfect! I’m still playing catch up on making the technical challenges but found some time yesterday to give this one a go. Thyme is my absolute favourite herb, but I don’t think I have ever used it in a sweet recipe before, so I was keen to try this out. Click here to keep reading.
