It’s been a while since I last did a post. It’s not that I haven’t baked anything, it’s more the fact that Tom came home – despite the fact he seems to be working constantly I suddenly have less free time! Anyway, I made this cake last weekend, with my sister. It was for our great Aunt’s 90th birthday – happy birthday Auntie Joan! We didn’t want to do just a plain sponge so the cake was lemon & poppy seed with a raspberry curd filling and a lemon buttercream – it was very light and delicious. Click here to keep reading.

My best friend, Nic, asked me a while ago if I could make a cake for her dad, Clive, for his 60th birthday. Of course, I said yes! His favourite cake of mine is the bunny cake I made at Easter this year (it’s also my favourite) but Nic wanted something golf related. So after a few scribbles I came up with this one… click here to keep reading.

Last year I made my friend Ro a birthday cake. It was huge. So, this year when she invited me to her 30th birthday celebrations, I asked her if I could make her a giant birthday cake again. Her response was “that is possibly the silliest question I’ve ever heard”. In the end though, it wasn’t as big as the previous year – I think it would have been hard to beat it! My big sister turned 30 last weekend – HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY!! I wanted her to a have a really special day and of course, that included making her a birthday cake she would never forget. Like me, she loves baking and decorating cakes so she probably would have liked to make her own, but when I saw a picture of this cake here a while ago I knew straight away that I had to make it for her – she’s a triathlete so what could be more appropriate than a 3 tier triathlon cake?! If she feels that she’s missed out on the baking and decorating, I guess I’ll let her make mine in a couple of years! Click here to keep reading.
Carrot and Ginger Shoebox Cake

This was the cake which I made to go with Kiri’s cupcake shoes – if you have a pair of shoes, you need a box to go with them. So, for the main cake I made a carrot and ginger cake and disguised it as a Jimmy Choo shoe box. The cake is from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book (yes, I’m slowly making my way through all the recipes). It was huge but tasted really good. Click here if you want to keep reading.
