jimmy choo shoe box cake

This was the cake which I made to go with Kiri’s cupcake shoes – if you have a pair of shoes, you need a box to go with them. So, for the main cake I made a carrot and ginger cake and disguised it as a Jimmy Choo shoe box. The cake is from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book (yes, I’m slowly making my way through all the recipes). It was huge but tasted really good. Click here if you want to keep reading.

For the “trick or treaters” that came to my house this evening, at the weekend I made some Halloween biscuits. I made cats, ghosts, pumpkins and owls – but I ran out of time to decorate them all so I only finished off the ghosts and cats in time. Maybe I’ll get around to decorating the others this weekend! Trick or Treat? If you want a treat keep reading…

This weekend I decided to have a cooking weekend – I did a  roast chicken, made two different types of soup, baked muffins for breakfast, made the Christmas cake, baked and (half) decorated some Halloween cookies, and I also made these… chocolate orange pumpkin cupcakes.

Since I’ve got four cocktail cupcakes to write about, here’s the next one… Pina Colada! Again, these were from The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days. There are 4 different mini cocktail cupcake recipes in the book and I made three of them – I didn’t make the Strawberry Daiquiri ones since my birthday is in February and although I probably could have got hold of strawberries (since you seem to be able to get any fruit at any time of year these days) I decided that they probably wouldn’t be that tasty so instead opted for White Russian ones. Ready for another cocktail?

I’ve been trying to think of events which are coming up soon, which I can make cupcakes for. The obvious ones came to mind – Halloween, bonfire night, birthdays etc. Most of the cupcakes I make end up at work, mainly because I can’t eat a whole batch myself so if I want to try a new recipe I might as well take them in! This week, it’s the last day before one of the girls I work with, Laura, goes on maternity leave. This occurred to me at the weekend on the train home and I started thinking of loads of “baby” related cupcakes. However, this week has been really busy at work so I had no time to make any decorations in advance so I actually didn’t get to make any of the decorations I thought of 😦 I guess they’ll have to wait until the next person leaves to go on maternity leave!
Feeling ambitious and want to try three cupcakes in one?

I discovered on Friday last week that there was going to be a cake sale in the office on Monday. Sadly I was away all weekend and didn’t get back until Monday lunchtime. Well, I wasn’t really that sad given that I went to Germany to see Tom! However, I didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to make some cakes for charity and since the Big Brew Up is happening all week I decided to make some last night! If you’re in the mood to make cupcakes too then keep reading!
