For the last few years I’ve made an Easter cake to raffle off for charity at work. I offered to do the same again this year for the charity of the month – Hearing Dogs.
Being at work all week meant I only had a couple of evenings to make and decorate it so I picked something fairly simple. The cake was a chocolate caramel ombré cake and I crumbled up the off cuts of the chocolate cake to make the soil. I covered the whole cake in green sugarpaste, cut out a circle from the middle and then filled it with the ‘soil’. The bunny was made from a ball of white icing flattened slightly and then put in the soil. I then stuck on a small ball of icing for his tail and made 2 feet which I finished off with a few small circles of pale pink icing. The carrots were made from orange icing and I marked some lines on them with the back of a knife. I added cake wire to the middle of the green carrot tops to keep them standing upright. Annoyingly they were slightly too tall to fit in the box so I had to break the tops off to make them a bit shorter!
Hope you all enjoy the long Easter weekend!

A few weeks ago I said that I would make an Easter cake for the office to raffle off for charity. I hadn’t decided what cake I would make so I used my usual source of inspiration – Pinterest. However, none of the Easter ideas I’d pinned last year jumped out at me so I decided to have another search. I was looking for ideas rather than something to copy completely but after I saw this cake I decided that there wasn’t much about it that I wanted to change. Is it Easter yet?!

Last year for Easter Emma and I were back at our parents for a few days, so we thought it was about time we made a mess of Mum’s kitchen and did some baking! We wanted to do a slightly different take on a traditional Simnel cake, and came across this yummy chocolate orange Simnel cake recipe. The decoration was another idea taken from Pinterest. So if you haven’t made a cake yet, this one is lovely and the decoration is fairly simple too. Click here to keep reading…

Last weekend it definitely felt like spring had arrived. We’d also had some lovely sunny days at the start of the week so I couldn’t resist making some spring cupcakes but after I made these on Wednesday evening the weather suddenly changed – I woke up on Thursday morning to see it was snowing! However, these little birdies definitely helped to brighten the day. “Chirp chirp, tweet tweet, chirp…” I mean click here to keep reading.

After I made a dinosaur cake for David’s son’s birthday, he asked me if I could make an Easter cake. As soon as he said he wanted a silly (rather than serious) cake, I came up with an idea… I loved the style of the drunk robin cake I made at Christmas and decided to make it Easter themed – so instead of drunk robins on a tree trunk, I wanted to make bunnies who’d eaten too many carrots on a raised vegetable bed. The problem is, now I’ve made it, I want to keep it! Click here to keep reading.
