IMG_3596Last week on Friday we got home from work to find a bowl full of eggs fresh on our doorstep, from our neighbours. I decided that in return for the eggs, I would bake them some cupcakes. I’ve had these pinned on Pinterest for ages and decided that they were the perfect cakes to make – spring-like and quick to make. Click here to find out how to make them.

It was my Birthday last week, so it was time to bake myself a cake and try out some new recipes. I really don’t mind making my own Birthday cake and it gave me the opportunity to try something new. Click here to see which recipe I chose.

Over the last few months, lots of my friends have had babies. Having just had a baby myself 4 months ago, I know how crazy the first few days and weeks can be. I love making presents for people and a box of cupcakes seemed perfect for any new parents – especially useful to have something to offer any visitors or for those days when things are so chaotic that all you manage to eat is a cupcake for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Click here to see how these cakes are made.

Making a gingerbread house has become an annual event with my friend Anne. Each year we seem to spend more time talking and drinking tea and less time making and decorating our gingerbread! It’s great fun and hopefully we’ll be doing it for many more years to come. This year I decided to make a bird box and keep the colours simple with just white Royal icing with a few red highlights. Last weekend we had a Reunion/ Christmas get together with our NCT friends, which we offered to host. Baking with a 7 week old baby is challenging, but I was desperate to bake something Christmassy and fun!   I chose a design that could be done in stages so I could fit it in around looking after little Emily. Click here to see what I baked.

Last year I didn’t get round to writing about the Christmas cake I made, mostly due to being over ambitious with what I wanted to do before the big day – there were so many thing I wanted to bake, Christmas decorations I wanted to make and prepare for 12 people coming to ours for Christmas. I’d never hosted Christmas before either! So I thought I would write a short blog about it this year in between feeding, nappy changing, playing and watching Emily sleep – it’s amazing how much time you can spend just watching your little one! Click here to see how to decorate the cake I made last year.

IMG_0229Just before Christmas last year, a family friend, Emma, asked if I would be able to make her wedding cake. Despite not living near where the wedding was going to be I said yes since it was near my parents so I thought it would be a good chance to go back to my parents for a few days. However, that didn’t happen – instead mum, dad and Becky came up to stay with me for a few days and then took the cake back. Becky even assembled the cake for me! Click here to keep reading.

Last time I got back from holiday, I bought some Toblerone at the airport, I decided to copy Emma’s idea and use it to make some treats for the office. I chose a summery design, perfect for the warm weather we’ve been having recently. Click here to find out more about these pretty cupcakes.

I’d never made a 100th Birthday cake before, so I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to make one. It was for our close friend’s Granny, who is called Rose, so the request for pink roses on the cake was perfect. The cake was a light fruit cake, a delicious recipe from an old cook book that our Mum has, great for this time of year!  Click here for the recipe.

IMG_0925This week has been a busy cake week. I usually find that if somebody asks me to make a cake, it usually ends up being for a week when I’m already making one. This week I’ve made two very different cakes, but both had a football theme. The first one I made was this one – a Sunderland football shirt.
