I’ve been looking through more of the cakes I’ve done over the last few years again this week and found this campervan cake that I made for one of Rich’s work colleagues. I love being able to personalise cakes, so it always makes it a nice challenge when someone gives you some photos of something they would like re-created on their cake. I still have a big backlog of cakes and bakes that I have made that I haven’t uploaded on our website yet, so over the next few weeks I’ll try and add some of these, especially as I’m not getting enough time to do much baking at the moment. I created this Harry Potter Birthday cake for one of Rich’s friends at work and really enjoyed making it – I can’t wait to read the books again when the girls are a bit older! I just love making and decorating Christmas cakes, so as a Christmas pressie this year for our friends Matt and Beckie and their 2 kids I decided to make them a cake again! While we were away with them in the Peak District I was looking at pictures of Christmas cakes on Pinterest and Freddie and Ellie loved all the penguin ones, so I thought that’s what I would do. I wanted to do something different for our Christmas cake this year, so decided on a big Father Christmas! I found a lovely design on Pinterest and thought I would give it a go, Emily is very excited about Father Christmas this year so I thought it was perfect. This year I am breaking from some of the traditional recipes I usually make, so the Christmas cake is a new one from October’s Sainsbury’s Magazine – clementine and chocolate, can’t wait to try it! Just over a week ago it was Chloe’s first Birthday! I decided to do a frog themed cake and mini party for her, Emily was so excited! I spent a long time on Pinterest looking at frog cakes for some inspiration and then on Facebook I spotted a YouTube video from The Little Cherry Cake Company on how to make a frog cake, so I had a look and thought I would give it a go, it is definitely the cutest froggy cake I had seen. A couple of weeks ago it was my niece Alice’s Christening and I was very excited to be making the cake for her. I’m not managing to fit much baking or cake decorating in at the moment so it was really nice to have a small cake project to work on! Tams asked for something with butterflies, so we looked at loads of designs and decided on the additions of some painted grass and flowers in pinks and purples and a small grey bunny too. We are away for Easter this year as it’s our Grandma’s 90th Birthday, so I thought I’d make an Easter cake a couple of weeks early for a weekend treat when we had friends staying. I loved the sound of this spiced marmalade bundt cake from the Waitrose newspaper a while ago, so thought I would give it a go. I had planned to make an Easter cake last year, but unfortunately ended up spending Easter in hospital with pneumonia, so this year I really wanted to make something special. The year following the arrival of Emily was a busy year of cake baking for me (although I was too busy to blog and upload any photos, so I’m playing catch up now!), having made lots of new local Mummy friends, I suddenly found myself being asked to make 1st Birthday cakes and Christening cakes! Emma’s favourite book when we were little was the Hungry Caterpillar and it’s also one of Emily’s favourites too, she knows almost all the words!
