Today I have spent all day decorating my own Christmas cake – it took way longer than planned but I’m pleased with the finished cake. I’ll hopefully post it later in the week, but first, here is a cake I made for the office for a charity raffle last week. Click here to keep reading.

A couple of weeks ago I made some cakes to take down to the Leeds office when I went for the day. Given it was December I decided that I should make something Christmassy. I hadn’t been food shopping so I was limited with what flavour I could make so just went with vanilla. The decoration was an easy choice – I made these cakes last year and really wanted to put them on the blog but never got round to taking photos. Click here to keep reading.

I’ve been making the same mince pies for years so decided to try something different this year. I had a look through my recipe books and found Nigella’s frangipane mince pies which sounded really good. I also made my own mincemeat too and used a different recipe which wasn’t as good as Delia’s so I’ll be going back to her recipe next year! Click here to try these mince pies.

Last weekend Becky came up to stay for a long Christmassy/girly weekend! Of course, the weekend involved plenty of baking. I saw the recipe for this in delicious. magazine last year and really wanted to try it but never got round to it so when I saw it again this year I thought it would make a good pudding for Friday night as well as being suitable to have with tea/coffee. It’s time for our 1st batch of Christmas baking! As usual I am baking for Serpentine Running Club for the last cross country race before Christmas, so it seemed fitting to make something Christmas theme and in red and gold – the clubs colours. I love the Hummingbird Bakery Christmas cupcake recipe, it has got all the flavours of a Christmas cake, but its lovely and light and is topped with scrummy almond butter cream. If you follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter you’ll probably have seen some baking over the last 12 months that hasn’t made it onto the blog. Sometimes we spend so much time baking that it’s hard to find the time to blog about our creations, especially since we also work…. Click here to find out what else we got up to last year.

Earlier in the year I made an Easter cake and Halloween cake for charity raffles in the office. I decided that I would offer to make a Christmas cake. I had no idea how I was going to decorate, but for some reason I decided that when I got home after my Christmas party it was a good time to start decorating it! After a quick search on Pinterest I found a cake that looked quite quick to make so I based it on that. Click here to see Father Christmas in bed!

Making a gingerbread house has become an annual event with my friend Anne. Each year we seem to spend more time talking and drinking tea and less time making and decorating our gingerbread! It’s great fun and hopefully we’ll be doing it for many more years to come. This year I decided to make a bird box and keep the colours simple with just white Royal icing with a few red highlights. Last weekend we had a Reunion/ Christmas get together with our NCT friends, which we offered to host. Baking with a 7 week old baby is challenging, but I was desperate to bake something Christmassy and fun! I chose a design that could be done in stages so I could fit it in around looking after little Emily. Click here to see what I baked.
