I love a bit of Christmas baking, last year I worked my way through the cupcake recipes from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book. I love the fruit cake cupcakes, the recipe is light and delicious and still has that lovely boozy fruit cake flavour. I thought these snowmen were pretty cool and as my hubby is a massive marshmallow fan I knew these would be a winner! Click here to find out how to build a snowman cupcake.

For the last few years Becky has done lots of baking for her running club and always tries to make the baking in the running club colours – red and yellow. So when Tom joined a hockey club up here I decided I would start doing some team-colour themed baking for him. His hockey team, JPC HC, plays in blue and yellow and the first thing that came into my mind was minions – I’ve clearly made too many minion cakes! Is it possible to make too many minions?

Last weekend I was in London for one of my best friend Sian’s 30th birthday celebrations. You can’t have a birthday celebration without cake, and given I was staying with Becky on the Friday night I offered to make her something. She didn’t have any specific requests so I decided to theme it with the place we were going for the evening which was an “apres ski”-style bar. Click here to keep reading.

A few weeks ago my close friends James and Jen had a beautiful baby girl. I was keen to make some cupcakes as a gift, but having made the baby face ones several times I was looking to try out something different. Click here to find out what I made…

This week is national cupcake week, possibly the best week of the year! I have been baking lots of cupcakes recently in particular for the hen parties I have been to this month. The 1st of 3 hen parties was for my lovely friend Anna who I met through our running club, she is getting married at the end of the month (look out for the blog about her wedding cake next month). I decided to do something different for her cupcakes rather than making the usual silly rude ones.

One of my friend’s, Kiri, asked me if I could do some baking for a hen do she was organising last weekend. I don’t like to declining baking opportunities so I said yes. However, given all the running around I’ve been doing recently I didn’t have much time. So what was going to be biscuits and girly cupcakes ended up being these. Keep reading…

The advantage of doing a blog with somebody else is that you can remind/encourage each other to keep it up. Over the last 6 months my blogging has been very irregular (and infrequent at times) but Becky and I have said that we’re going to remind each other to write a post each week. So here’s my post for the week – look out for Becky’s later this week.

Before I started Gloverly Cupcakes, Becky and I discussed starting a blog with “Sugarplum” in the name. Why? Because it was my nickname when I was younger and it fitted in with the baking theme. I didn’t want to steal the name for a blog on my own, so I came up with Gloverly Cupcakes. Now Becky has joined me we want to keep the Gloverly Cupcakes name, but we also want to have a link to sugarplums. The first step was creating a new logo. The next step was to create a signature bake –
Flower and Butterfly Cupcakes

I like all kinds of baking and cake decorating and I love being asked to make anything, but after 3 minions, 2 pandas, and a sooty cake, it made a nice change to be asked to make some pretty cupcakes. I also like being given the opportunity to come up with the decorations myself – the only instructions I was given for these was that they had to be purple and silver with flowers and butterflies. Perfect! Click here to keep reading.
