main cakeA few weeks ago I said that I would make an Easter cake for the office to raffle off for charity. I hadn’t decided what cake I would make so I used my usual source of inspiration – Pinterest. However, none of the Easter ideas I’d pinned last year jumped out at me so I decided to have another search. I was looking for ideas rather than something to copy completely but after I saw this cake I decided that there wasn’t much about it that I wanted to change. Is it Easter yet?!

Last weekend it was Emma’s 30th Birthday party. She had decided on an Alice in Wonderland theme for her party. It was fancy dress too and we had an brilliant afternoon and evening playing silly games and eating plenty of scrummy food. But no Birthday would be complete without a Birthday cake! As Emma made me an amazing surprise cake for my 30th, I had a lot to live up to, so after several months of planning I found a design that was perfect that I could adapt for her cake. Just before Christmas I was very excited to be asked to be a God Mother and also excited about being asked to do the Christening cake. The top tier of Matt and Beckie’s wedding cake had been stored for a couple of years, so I spent a few weeks feeding it with brandy before decorating it. I love the grey and yellow elephant theme they chose and had been asked to do a similar themed baby shower cake for the week before, you can see the cake here. They also requested some matching cupcakes, read on to find out more about these cute elephant cakes.

P1170242AIf you follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter you’ll probably have seen some baking over the last 12 months that hasn’t made it onto the blog. Sometimes we spend so much time baking that it’s hard to find the time to blog about our creations, especially since we also work. So here is a collection of things we made in 2014 that you might not have seen yet.

IMG_2728Yesterday I spent all afternoon in the kitchen, decorating the Christmas cake, whilst listening to Christmas tunes. This has been a tradition, since as long as I can remember. Several months before Christmas, Becky and I usually discuss what design we’re each going to do that year. This year for me it was easy – I’d found two designs last year and only had time to do one, the penguin bowling cake. I’m glad I didn’t try to fit this one in last year since it literally took all afternoon to decorate. Click here if you want some elves to wrap your Christmas cake up for you!

P1170320Every year the company I work for takes part in the Enduro Challenge. This is an endurance relay event where a team of 6 athletes race from Tower to Tower – The Tower of London to The Eiffel Tower. Teams run from London to Dover, swim across the English Channel (in only a swimming costume!) and then cycle from Calais to Paris. Yes, this is an extreme triathlon! I’ve taken part a couple of times and have helped support the race the last few years too. It’s an enormous amount of fun and incredibly hard work and the athletes that take part are thoroughly deserving of plenty of homemade cakes! So it has become a tradition that I supply some home baked goodies, preferably themed for the event. So this year I have been busy baking some sea creature cupcakes.

Want to find out what’s lurking in the English Channel!?

whole cakeI love being asked to make cakes. But I love it even more when I get asked to make something that I haven’t made before, especially if it’s going to be a challenge. So I was pretty excited when Tom’s brother, Rem, asked if I would make his wedding cake. Of course I said yes, and came up with some suggestions. I gave them some traditional ideas but knowing that they both like rock climbing I said they could have something a bit alternative. I sent them a few photos of ideas and was pleased when they went with the ice climbing one – the white made it look more like a wedding cake than some of the other ones I found. 20130904-114556.jpgIt’s been a while since I last did a post. It’s not that I haven’t baked anything, it’s more the fact that Tom came home – despite the fact he seems to be working constantly I suddenly have less free time! Anyway, I made this cake last weekend, with my sister. It was for our great Aunt’s 90th birthday – happy birthday Auntie Joan! We didn’t want to do just a plain sponge so the cake was lemon & poppy seed with a raspberry curd filling and a lemon buttercream – it was very light and delicious. Click here to keep reading.

20130728-195953.jpg My best friend, Nic, asked me a while ago if I could make a cake for her dad, Clive, for his 60th birthday. Of course, I said yes! His favourite cake of mine is the bunny cake I made at Easter this year (it’s also my favourite) but Nic wanted something golf related. So after a few scribbles I came up with this one… click here to keep reading.
