IMG_4268 I’ve made a few cakes for one of our friends, Martin, but this is probably my favourite. When I asked what cake he wanted, Jen, his wife, said he loves Marvel Comics and the Hulk is his favourite. Other than that I had free reign to chose what to make. These are my favourite kind of cakes. After a search on Pinterest I found a few ideas I liked and decided to merge them all into one cake. Click here to keep reading.

Last year a friend at work asked if I’d be able to make a birthday cake for one of her friends. However when she said she wanted a sugar skull on it, I had no idea what she was on about and was worried that if agreed to make something I wouldn’t be able to do! Click here to find out how I made it.

IMG_3564I made an Easter cake again this year for a charity raffle at work. Unfortunately I was ill the week before so didn’t have as much time as last year and had to choose a simpler design. Sometimes simple is best but I think I still prefer the cake I made last year. The cake this year was being raffled on Wednesday so I made a Simnel cake from the BBC website that would last until the Easter weekend. If you follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter you’ll probably have seen some baking over the last 12 months that hasn’t made it onto the blog. Earlier in the year I made an Easter cake and Halloween cake for charity raffles in the office. I decided that I would offer to make a Christmas cake. I had no idea how I was going to decorate, but for some reason I decided that when I got home after my Christmas party it was a good time to start decorating it! After a quick search on Pinterest I found a cake that looked quite quick to make so I based it on that. Last year I didn’t get round to writing about the Christmas cake I made, mostly due to being over ambitious with what I wanted to do before the big day – there were so many thing I wanted to bake, Christmas decorations I wanted to make and prepare for 12 people coming to ours for Christmas. I’d never hosted Christmas before either! So I thought I would write a short blog about it this year in between feeding, nappy changing, playing and watching Emily sleep – it’s amazing how much time you can spend just watching your little one! Click here to see how to decorate the cake I made last year.

P1210008If you like our Facebook page you’ll have seen that a month ago today, Becky gave birth to a beautiful baby girl – Emily Charlotte Phillips! I took the first opportunity I had to go down and meet her. I wanted to take down a cake, so with the help of mum (who made the rocky road cake for me!) I created this very rushed cake. Cheese Cake

Every year for Tom’s birthday I make him a cake. This year it’s a bit late since we were on holiday but I promised I’d make him something to take to work when we got back. It took a while to come up with an idea but I went through a list of things Tom likes and cakes I’ve made, and realised I’ve never made him a cheese-related cake. More cheese please!

I had my parents coming to visit this weekend as well as a few other friends popping over to visit, so this weeks Bake Off technical challenge was perfect, it meant that I had a yummy cake to offer everyone! I make quite a lot of fruit cakes, so I was keen to try this recipe to see how it compares. I have made my own marzipan a few times, but I have never made my own sugar paste, so this would be another thing to tick off the list. Click here to see how I got on.
