A couple of weeks ago one of the girls I work, Kiri, with left to go on secondment for 6 months. I’m always looking for excuses to make cakes so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make some “leaving” cupcakes.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

One of the girls in the office, Simran, loves the Hummingbird Bakery and always goes when she’s in London. Her favourite flavour cupcake/the one she always has is this one: red velvet with a cream cheese frosting. So I promised that I would, at some point, make some red velvet cupcakes to bring into the office. I eventually got round to making them last summer. And it’s taken me just as long to get round to blogging about them. If you can’t wait any longer for a red velvet cupcake click here.

This weekend, I’ve definitely started to feel Christmassy. Tom was working (again!) so I spent all day yesterday baking and wrapping presents. Today I saw pretty much everyone in the family – first we had a roast at my Auntie Ann’s house with everyone from my mum’s side of the family and then we over to see my Great Auntie Joan who had just arrived from American and most of my dad’s side of the family was there. When I got back I was still feeling festive so I decided to make some Christmas cupcakes. Are you feeling festive?
Hen Do Baking!

Last weekend it was my sister’s hen do. With the help of her other bridesmaid (and future sister-in-law), I organised a weekend away in a cottage. Apart from the date, we wanted it all to be a complete surprise for her. She’d come up with a long list of ideas but I pointed out to her that we were organising it and not her! However, I wanted her to enjoy the weekend so we did listen to some of her suggestions, one of which was having a theme for the Saturday, which was girly and everyone could get dressed up for. She suggested 1920s but since she’s been to a few 1920s parties before I wanted to do something different. So we decided to do a 1950s American Diner theme – keep reading to find out more!
Sherlock Holmes Cupcakes

On Sunday it was the Bupa Great Birmingham Run. One of the guys I work with, Adam, was running so I decided to make some cupcakes to raise some money for the charity he was running for – Birmingham Children’s Hospital. I was going to make some running themed cupcakes but his nickname in the office is “Sherlock” (because he looks a bit like Benedict Cumberbatch), so I decided to make some Sherlock Holmes cupcakes. A few weeks ago I wanted to make some cupcakes to take over to my friend Jen’s for her mini “hen weekend”. They needed to be suitable girly but I didn’t have a huge amount of time to make and decorate them. So I decided to make these – inspired by some my sister made for a hen do! Hedgehog Cupcakes

I’m always looking for new ways to decorate cupcakes, and when I came across a photo of these, I decided they were too cute not to make. I was looking for something autumnal and had done various searches on the internet before I discovered them. Finding the ingredients to make them was the trickiest part – I think I had to empty 12 tubes of Smarties before I found enough red ones to make the toadstools and even then I didn’t have enough to make one to go on each cake as planned but I decided that if I went back to the Co-op to buy a third lot of Smarties they might start to ask questions so I left it! London Underground Cupcakes

Two of the partners in my team at work moved to London earlier this summer, so for their leaving do, their P.A. asked if I could make them some London themed cupcakes. Given I was making quite a lot of them I decided I needed to keep the design simple. London Underground signs seemed like a good choice and I was able to make them in advance. I didn’t decide how I was decorating the chocolate cupcakes until the night I made them! Keep reading if you love London!
Tennis Ball (Wimbledon) Cupcakes

I seem to have made a lot of things over the last couple of months, but not really blogged much… so I think it’s time to catch up with some of the things I’ve made! These are slightly out of date now given I made them during the Wimbledon fortnight but given its still summer/tennis season, I think they’re still relevant. Want a snack to keep you going while you’re playing tennis?
Tour de France Cupcakes

My Uncle Pe-pe is currently cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End with his brother-in-law Tim. He’s not going at quite the same speed as the Tour de France but then he’s not a cyclist, they’re not having any rest days and they don’t have a support crew following them so they are cycling with all their kit and camping, so he’s doing an amazing job! Rather than just donating, I decided to use a tiny amount of the money I was going to donate (less than £5) to make some cakes to raise a bit more money… and that’s when I came up with these cupcakes.
