A couple of weeks ago we had family to stay for the weekend and once again the bake off technical made a great pudding! Click here to keep reading.

I’m a bit behind with the challenges this year, October and November are always so busy with both the girls Birthdays and Rich’s Birthday too, so I have been busy making 3 Birthday cakes instead. But the other weekend I did manage to squeeze in making a smaller version of the banoffee pie. Click here to see how I got on.

Caramel week is always one of our favourite weeks on the GBBO and this year was no exception. Rich was very pleased that the technical bake was Tarte Tatin, one of his favourites and something I have never made. Click here to see how I got on.

Having been away for half term I am a bit behind with the bake off challenges! I didn’t have time to make this one before we left, so it was on my list of things to cook when we got home, perfect for this miserable autumnal weather. Click here to see how I got on.

I’d love to have more time to try some patisserie stuff, I love watching Bake Off the Professionals and seeing some of the amazing patisserie things they do. It’s all so precise and they have lots of clever equipment too! These deserts were perfectly timed with Rich’s Birthday, so they made a tasty treat for pudding on Saturday night. We were really looking forward to dessert week on the Bake Off, especially having seen the clip the week before showing the very limited instructions for making a lemon meringue pie. I honestly don’t think I have ever made a lemon meringue pie before, but I’ve made plenty of pastry, curd and meringue, so I was hoping it was going to be fairly straightforward. Free from week on the bake off always surprises me, they make things that I would never usually attempt or things that really don’t appeal, but when I give them a go they are usually pretty good! This week was no exception, I love making sausage rolls and have tried plenty of different recipes over the years. But a vegan sausage roll didn’t really appeal – if you had told me it was a mushroom, lentil and miso pie I would have thought it sounded delicious. Click here to see how I got on.

We were all away together on a family holiday last week and managed to watch the GBBO together for the first time in a long time! I don’t think any of us were particularly keen to make these having seen the curd cheese being made, but when we looked at the recipe it actually sounded pretty good. So on Sunday afternoon Emily and I had a go at making them. Click here to see how we got on.

Like all of the bakers, I hadn’t heard of Puits d’Amour either so I was intrigued to try them out this weekend. I also have to admit that I’m not sure I have ever made a creme pat and I think the last time I made choux pastry was when I was at school! So this week was definitely a new challenge! Last week was pastry week on the bake off and I really don’t make much pastry as it’s very hard to make gluten free for Rich to eat so I just tend to avoid it. So I was looking forward to the challenge and eating 12 custard tarts all to myself! Click  here to see how I got on.
